A good KPI dashboard enables you to understand the context behind key metrics and empowers you to take actions, based on data.
But before you can visualize your KPIs in one place, your KPIs should be consolidated. And that's a major challenge. 😬
Your metrics reside in various, completely separated, datasets. KPIs are also typically quite different in nature. They can be good or bad (revenues vs expenses), have versatile units (e.g. Sales in USD, Gross Margin in %, Net Promotor Score as a 1-10 score, Cost per Employee as a ratio, etc.).
Luckily, there are three highly effective ways how to prepare your KPI data in Power BI. Join our live session to see exactly how to do it. 👇
If you're a beginner in Power BI, start with a simple Excel table and try to recreate the first example. Otherwise, number three with DAX is the one that works best. It allows you more control over calculations and it doesn't affect your existing Power BI model. Your existing Power BI model stays the same in addition to one table. Go for number 3 if you're comfortable with DAX formulas.
Formatting is quite a challenge in Power BI but with Zebra BI Cards visual, you have many options. You can invert the KPI and control the unit, decimal places, symbols, and percentages for each individual card. In terms of formatting, this means that you can control everything for each separate card.
Yes, you can, you can take advantage of these methods also on standard Power BI visuals. Everything will work as expected.
