How do your financial reports look like?

All too often, they fall somewhere between messy spreadsheets and “dashboards”, full of poorly labelled and inappropriate charts, that simply do not get the message across to decision makers.

Countless reports and presentations are created throughout organizations on a daily basis, all in different formats, lengths, shapes and colors, depending on personal preferences of the person who prepares them.

This results in managers not making their way through the data presented, leading to time being wasted and important decisions perhaps not being made.

Messy spreadsheet, inappropriate dashboard

Tired of arguing about what is the best font, color, shape and presentation method for your financial data? The answer is IBCS.

Join the US premiere of our exclusive financial reporting training to find out how and why it works!

Why attend?

Program

IBCS Template 12 - Waterfalls
Actual vs budget - integrated variance chart
  • MAKE IT CLEAR
The first rule of good information design is to make it clear and legible. Your goal is not to make an artistic impression, but solely the clarity of your intended message. We'll show you how to replace chartjunk with meaningful visualizations.
  • WHAT'S YOUR MESSAGE?
Your numbers want to tell a story. Set them free from the spreadsheet jail-bars and help them communicate the message. We will explain how to achieve efficient storytelling in financial reports and business presentations.
  • INCREASE INFORMATION DENSITY
"To clarify, add detail... and fix the design instead!" said Edward Tufte. Decision makers require much more than nicely decorated charts. Their endless "Why?" questions can only be answered by showing more (related) information, displaying comparisons and benchmarks, creating small multiples, etc.
  • ROLL OUT CONSISTENT INFORMATION DESIGN
What's the color of actuals and budgets, what's the shape of sales, costs and other KPIs? It is utterly important to unify the appearance of all reports within a company. You'll learn color coding, pattern coding, shape coding and other propositions of the International Business Communication Standards (IBCS). IBCS ensures consistent notation throughout your organisation and makes the reports as readable as traffic signs.
  • USE THE RIGHT CHART
Which chart to use in which case? We have developed a practical 3-step process to help you decide on the right one, based on the type of data you're presenting and the intended message or analytic task your users are expected to perform.
  • TABLE DESIGN
Tables can be very suitable for displaying quantitative information. However, when designed badly, they're just an illegible mess of numbers. We'll equip you with practical rules explaining how to design exceptionally clear and well-structured tables. We'll also show you how to embed visualizations into tables.
  • BUILDING DASHBOARDS
Dashboards are becoming an increasingly popular tool for communicating business information. But the vast majority of dashboards completely fail at this task. You'll learn 7 guidelines to organize and efficiently design your business dashboards.
  • BEST PRACTICE EXAMPLES
Variance reports, income statements, cash-flow analyses, accounts receivable, market analyses and more. All best- practice examples have been tested and proven effective in real world cases at industry-leading multinational companies.
  • HOW TO MAKE IT ALL WORK IN EXCEL
Struggling with complex BI & reporting tools and the departments that support them? Find out how MS Excel is used to generate some of the most advanced charts even in large companies. Also learn how to make shortcuts around complex excel charting and formatting. We'll conduct a short computer training with practical examples in Excel using Zebra BI (full functioning dmeo Zebra BI licenses are included in the price).

All features will be illustrated with practical examples from world-class companies!

What people say

Ilkay Furmaz

Andrej conducted trainings for 50 analysts and managers at Coca-Cola Icecek in 2014. With the help of his trainings and Zebra BI tool, we have been able to unify reports, presentations and dashboards across 10 countries within the Coca-Cola Icecek group. Good before/after examples were the key to getting the IBCS Standards accepted on top management level. For us, this was a transformational experience!

Magnus Hoffritz

I was very impressed by a Design Workshop for Excel conducted by Andrej. Often these kind of workshops can be tedious and unfocused, but this was not the case. It was very well organized and all participants found it very fruitful. This was mainly thanks to the professionalism and friendliness of Andrej.

I would recommend this to any company struggling with messy and inefficient reporting tools.

Lea Smigoc

Our collaboration with Andrej began in 2006 when he started the internal management reporting workshops for Mobitel. The innovative approach and flexibility in adapting to user’s specific needs are an added value of their executions.

Our employees who attended the workshops could transfer the acquired knowledge into practice immediately and in so doing, improved their reporting style to both the managers, and to internal and external public.
